JUST LIKE LAST YEAR—SOME GOOD NEWS: For over 25 years our club has supported community projects by summer peach sales. On only one of the past seven years have we been able to get Hill Country peaches because of late freezes or hail. For five of those same seven years we stayed in business with some fantastic fruit from McPeak Orchards in Pittsburg, Texas. Three years ago there were no Hill Country peaches and McPeak’s freestones were wiped out by hail. So…….our workaround in mid-August of 2007 was the introduction of Mountain Gold peaches from Talbott Farms in Palisade, Colorado. Some customers say that nothing compares to a Hill Country peach; others say that McPeak’s freestones are as good as they’ve ever been able to find anywhere; and still others say that the introduction of Mountain Gold peaches was a blessing in disguise. You can be your own judge. THE VERY GOOD NEWS: This year we will bring you all three—Zenner’s Hill Country and McPeak’s Pittsburg peaches in mid-July—followed by Mountain Gold peaches from Colorado in early September.
THE DETAILS: We will deliver both Hill Country and Pittsburg peaches on Saturday, July 10th and Saturday, July 17th. Requests for one or the other will be honored to the maximum extent possible on a first-come, first-served basis—but only at the delivery site. We then plan to deliver Colorado’s Mountain Gold peaches on a consecutive Friday and Saturday on yet-to-be-determined dates in early September. The important thing to remember is this—there are separate order forms for Texas and Colorado peaches. An order form for Texas peaches is enclosed with this letter, and we will mail a Colorado form to you in mid-August.
NOW FOR THE EVEN BETTER NEWS: This year our price for the very best fruit available will be $36 for a 22+ pound box. That is $2 per box below last year’s price, and it equates to $1.64 per pound. Check other prices and quality and you will see that we still offer the best deal in town. And remember, every cent of profit from your purchases is used to support the community projects shown on the back of this letter.
The pickup site this year is the same as last year—the south end of the Ross Clothing parking lot, 8038 Burnet Road. Pickup times (8:30 AM to 1:00 PM) and the location are also shown on the enclosed order form. Please get to the pickup point well before 1:00 PM. Call me at the number shown on the order form if you have any questions.
And last but not least—do your friends, neighbors and us a favor and spread the word about Kiwanis peaches. Every dollar that we raise goes back into the community. We look forward to hearing from you; and as always, thanks for your support!!
