PEACH SALES
THE BACKGROUND:
For over 25 years our club has supported community projects by summer peach sales. We were able to get Fredericksburg peaches on only one of the past six years because of late freezes or hail. This year’s wipeout was due to a record freeze in early April. For four of those same six years we stayed in business with some fantastic fruit from McPeak Orchards in Pittsburg, Texas. In 2007 there were no Hill Country peaches and McPeak’s freestones were destroyed by hail. So…..our workaround that year was the introduction of Mountain Gold peaches from Talbott Farms in Palisade, Colorado. Some customers say that nothing compares to a Hill Country peach; others say that McPeak’s freestones are as good as they’ve been able to find anywhere; and still others say that the introduction of Mountain Gold peaches was a blessing in disguise.
THE DETAILS:
Peaches should be pre-ordered. Texas peaches from McPeak Orchards will be available for pickup on both July 11th and July 18th—your choice. Simply send an e-mail to Michael, Bob, or Kent (by clicking on their names here) with your name, phone number and the number of boxes you want to pick-up on July 11th or July 18th. The pickup site is the south end of the Ross Clothing parking lot, 8038 Burnet Road. The pickup time is between 8:30 AM and 12:00 noon. We will call you a day or two before your scheduled pickup to remind you of your order.
The price for the very best Texas fruit available is $38.00 for a 22+ pound box—the same as last year. That equates to $1.73 per pound. Check other prices and quality and you will see that we offer the best deal in town. And remember, over 20% of your purchases are used to support our community service projects.
We also plan to deliver Colorado peaches on a single weekend in mid-September. We will update this website when more complete information becomes available.
IN SUMMARY:
Last year we delivered over 25 tons of peaches to our loyal customers. Please do your friends, neighbors and us a favor and spread the word about Kiwanis peaches. Every dollar that we raise goes back to the community. We look forward to hearing from you.

Friends:
Remember our meeting tomorrow at 7 a.m. at Marie Calendar's. Our speaker is Mr. Jeff Vice of the Regulatory and Government Affairs department of Austin Energy. He will be talking about the new alternative-source energy projects that Austin is pursuing currently, and with the assistance of Federal stimulus funding, attempting to undertake in the future. Thanks to Bud Baughman for setting that up. Our friends from Sun City are planning another inner-club, so let's have a good group to greet them!
Responsibilities for tomorrow:

Invocation: Josh Stewart
Greeter: Tom Exeslage
Remember the second Peach Turn-in is tomorrow.
Remember the Board Meeting July 2 at 7 a.m. at Waterloo Ice House.

Thanks,
Michael

He will be talking about the new alternative-source energy projects that Austin is pursuing currently, and with the assistance of Federal stimulus funding, attempting to undertake in the future. Thanks to all who were at this morning's meeting. We had a great turnout with 15 people in attendance, not counting the speaker! Our speaker was Jerry Ronquillo, of United Way Capital Area. For those who were not there, he spoke about the 2-1-1 call center, which matches resources with people with needs. I was particularly interested in his discussion about volunteer opportunities, especially manning call centers during natural disasters. This is something I hope we as a Club decide to look in to!
Remember the first peach turn in is next week, June 19. Additional turn-in envelopes and order forms are in the podium. Please help us keep the podium clean if you get things out.
I look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday morning.
Thanks,
Michael

Thanks to all who attended this morning's meeting. We has another very full house this morning, between our own great attendance and our visitors from the University and Sun City Clubs. Jeff Vice presented an interesting program on the current situation and future of Austin Energy.
We still need two people to step up and bring us programs for July 14 and 21.
Remember our Board Meeting Thursday, July 2, at 7 a.m. at Waterloo Ice House.
Next week, Bruce Bigelow is responsible for the program. Scott Palmer is responsible for the pledge, Joe Trochta for the Invocation and Bob Frazer will be our greeter.
Remember we are way behind on Peach Sales. Let's work hard to make this year more successful then last year!
Thanks, and see you next Tuesday!
